Dave Owens has a diverse body of experience including litigation, transactions and in-house matters. He routinely reviews contracts, negotiates business transactions, manages litigation and provides compliance guidance. His areas of expertise include: banking and financial regulations, intellectual property, internet law, consumer law, privacy, and commercial agreements.

Prior to joining The Internet Law Group as Of Counsel, Dave worked with the Law Offices of George M. Rush, where he represented independent filmmakers by drafting and reviewing investor agreements, crew deal memos, actor agreements, licensing agreements and fair use assessments. He served as credited co-counsel on three films that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

Next, Dave worked as a litigation attorney for Bryan Cave, LLP, where he represented financial institutions in civil litigation matters. He successfully handled over 100 cases while at Bryan Cave. He provided liability assessments, directly negotiated with opposing counsel, drafted dispositive motions, propounded and responded to discovery requests, and attended court-mandated hearings, mediations and settlement conferences.

Dave currently works as an in-house attorney for a financial technology company in the Bay Area, where he manages litigation, reviews and drafts commercial agreements, reviews all customer-facing materials, training materials and advertisements, and provides compliance guidance for the company.

Dave also currently teaches business law to undergraduates at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. He also volunteers his time to the Tri-Valley Youth Court and Paws in Need.

Dave resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife, Jen, and Kevin, a chihuahua/rat terrier mix. His hobbies and interests include cinema, reading, hiking and NBA basketball.
